Getting started, eh?
If you're new here, welcome! The following documentation should get you started with your visit at What The... TECH. We hope that you'll do more than just visit, and hang out for awhile.
1. First thing you should do is read this guide.
2. Check out the "welcome" information on the homepage. That's a pretty good overview of who "we" are, and what the site's purpose is.
3. Take a few minutes to register. You can take in a lot of content without registering, but you won't be able to view profiles, network with others, join groups, add friends, search through the site's pages (and more!) unless you do. To do so, click on "register" on the homepage. You'll be asked a few questions, then you'll get an email from us. Opening that email and following the link within it gets you going as a Registered User.
4. Once registered, log onto the site with your brand new What The... TECH username and password. The "login" is on the homepage.
5. Once you log in, you'll see your What The... TECH profile. Now would be a good time to update it for the first time. Because you're at What The... TECH, we're going to assume that you are a tech, and with that, assume that you like playing around with tech and will probably skim over this guide and take on the site head on. And that being said, What The... TECH is your playground, and your profile is sort of like your jungle gym, or that big slide that you used to love in 5th grade, or something like that. So if you see an "edit" button, go crazy and edit it.
[Still reading this? Here's a few more steps to take.]
6. You can click on "profile" to view your profile. To edit your entire profile page, click "edit page." Edit Page will let you add/move the profile widgets around (drag n drop style) to redesign your profile page. If you're not sure what a certain widget does, move your cursor over the "blue I" information icon. You can also customize your "dashboard" with widgets.
7. Tools. Under "tools" is where you'll find blogs, bookmarks, friends, groups, files, and pages. This is the beating heart of What The... TECH. This, my friends, is the content. From adding a friend at neighboring school district to posting a blog about the terrible day you've had with a downed server and how you managed to fix it with a broken rubber band and piece of bubble gum, to bookmarking a favorite page that someone else posted about the links they use for great teacher resources, to making some pages and uploading some files of your own; it's all here under "tools."
8. Your What The... TECH inbox. Click on the "mail" icon to send/receive What The... TECH email. (You can also leave messages on each other's "message board")
9. Settings - Change your password, your display name, email address, or check on account statistics.
10. And the other stuff. Check out all the menu links... Blogs, Groups, Pages (to name a few). What The... TECH, this site is for YOU. You know you want to.
